Ajax created limited scoring opportunities, with only one clear chance that Mika Godts failed to convert. The team held Inter in check in the first half, but trailed 1-0 at halftime after taking just three shots on goal.
Ajax waited 25 minutes into the second half to record their first shot, but Weghorst praised his team's performance.
"I think we played well in the first half and had some good chances," Weghorst said. "I think we were the better team. We had a good chance with Mika, which should have gone in, and then they scored from a corner."
Weghorst felt that Ajax could have gained more from the game.
"It's disappointing, because I think we could have done more. We were dominant and good in the duels. We put pressure on them at times and built up well. Our plan worked out pretty well."
Weghorst was substituted out for Kasper Dolberg in the game, and was visibly disappointed.
"I felt like I played well. I felt good and strong. It was a nice evening with the crowd and atmosphere. So, of course, you feel sorry to be taken off."
Weghorst primarily used his height in the game, participating in seven aerial duels and winning three of them. He had 28 touches but no shots on goal and completed 12 of his 20 passes.
