Maddison emphasized the significance of the upcoming game, especially considering the team's struggles this season. "It's huge," he said. "When you look back at your career, there aren't many times a player has been in the European semi-finals. Perhaps once or twice if you're lucky." He believes the team should use this opportunity to their advantage, with a chance to have a great performance in both the upcoming matches.
Maddison also discussed his role as a senior player and how he can motivate and inspire the young team. "We've got a real special opportunity," he said. "There's been a lot of talk about our form and the season being poor, but we have the chance to do something very special. We've earned it and we deserve to be here. It's a challenge we're going to relish."
Regarding his experience in winning competitions like the Premier League and FA Cup, Maddison believes he can use it to help the team. "You want to feel the hurt and a bit of embarrassment about how Sunday went," he said. "Losing 5-1 in any game is embarrassing. My job as a senior player is to not accept the fact that we were poor and can't move forward like that because the league is important and gives you momentum for Europe, but also trying to put it aside."
Maddison also touched on his experience in the European semi-finals with Leicester City in 2022. "Definitely, I am very motivated to help the team have success," he said. "We got to a European semi-final with Leicester in the Conference League and lost to Roma over two legs. At the time, I didn't realize the magnitude of what we were so close to achieving, until now. It's important for myself and the team that we are ready and don't let any small detail get in the way."
