According to transfer expert David Ornstein, this move has paid off, and Arsenal are now close to finalizing the deal. However, the talks have taken longer than expected due to a disagreement between Gyokeres and Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, over the terms of the transfer.

Gyokeres believes that an agreement was reached earlier this summer for a transfer fee of €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons. However, Varandas has refused to accept this deal, causing delays in the negotiations.

Arsenal have already prepared a five-year contract for Gyokeres, and personal terms are expected to be a mere formality if the transfer is completed.
